Kenya eTA photo rejected — DCI fix in 60 seconds
Kenya eTA replaced eVisa in January 2024
Since January 2024 Kenya requires an eTA (electronic Travel Authorization) for all visitors except East African Community (Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan) nationals. The eTA is applied for at etakenya.go.ke, costs USD 30 (plus convenience fees), and requires a compliant photo upload.
The eTA photo specification is similar to the old eVisa but with stricter file-size enforcement (200 KB minimum, 1 MB maximum).
File size and dimensions
200 KB minimum (rejects low-quality uploads), 1 MB maximum (rejects raw camera photos). 600×600 pixels minimum, square. complypic outputs 600×600 around 220 KB — within range.
Background and face
Plain white background, face occupying 60-80% of the frame, head straight, looking directly at the camera. Glasses banned. Religious head covering accepted if face is fully visible.
Children and East African Community
Children require their own eTA with their own photo. EAC nationals don't need an eTA but should still carry valid travel documents. The photo spec for children is identical to adults.
