What are the DV Lottery photo requirements?

The DV Lottery (Diversity Visa) photo must be a square JPG between 600×600 and 1200×1200 pixels, file size under 240 KB, plain white or off-white background, taken within the last 6 months. Head height must be 50-69% of the image, eyes between 56-69% from the bottom, no glasses (since 2016), neutral expression, no head covering except for religious reasons.

FAQ

What entrants ask before submitting to the DV program.

Will this work for the DV-2027 entry?

Yes. The Department of State publishes the same photo spec each year: square JPG, 600×600–1200×1200 px, plain background, file under 240 KB. We size to the upper end so your photo never gets rejected for low resolution.

Does this work for the actual Green Card application after winning?

Yes. Selectees bring two physical 2x2" photos to the interview. Our 4×6" sheet contains two correctly cropped and sized photos for the interview, plus the digital JPG you used for the DV submission.

Can I wear glasses?

No. The State Department removed the glasses exception in November 2016. The photo must show your eyes clearly without lenses.

Are smiles allowed?

A subtle natural smile is allowed, but no teeth showing. Big smiles cause automatic rejection — we apply a neutral-to-mild smile correction automatically.
