What size is a UK passport photo?

A UK passport photo is 35×45 mm in portrait orientation (taller than wide), with a light grey or cream plain background. Head height must be 29-34 mm from chin to crown. Photo must be in colour, taken within 1 month for new applications, no glasses (HM Passport Office removed the exception in 2018), neutral expression with mouth closed. Standard enforced by His Majesty's Passport Office (HMPO) for new passports, renewals, child passports, and emergency travel documents from UK consulates.

Can I use the same photo for a UK visa application?

Almost. The UK visa photo spec is similar (45×35 mm, the same 35×45 dimensions) but the recency requirement is 1 month for visa, 1 month for new passport. The same fresh photo works for both.

Does this work for child passports?
